Career day speakers inspire Mission Valley students
  • Meteorologist Robert Bettes speaking to Mission Valley students

The much-anticipated Career Day arrived once again on Jan. 20 at Mission Valley Elementary.  More than 30 speakers volunteered their time and shared their career knowledge and experience with students from kinder through 6nd grade.

Doctors, professional athletes, educators, engineers, news broadcasters, police officers, animal and technology experts, and lawyers were just a few of the professions represented. Presenters from El Paso and other cities (via Skype) shared their success stories in hopes of motivating our future leaders to become productive members of our society.

The story of Jeff Manship, professional baseball player for the Minnesota Twins, was very inspiring. Students learned about his struggles that eventually brought him to his current success. Dr. Omar Arrieta, an El Paso native who currently resides and practices in Austin, encouraged our students to continue to work hard further their education beyond high school.

School counselor, Mabel Avalos, worked diligently to provide the Mission Valley students with fun-filled, positive, and motivational learning experience. Students who attended the school-wide Career Day activities walked away with a better understanding of what college is and what types of careers are available to them.
