Congratulations to the Eastwood High School swim team for their outstanding performance at the Lubbok Invitational diving and swim meet on Jan. 14 and 15 in Lubbock, Texas.

The boys team defended their title and came in first overall to win the meet with 513 points out scoring the runner-up Lubbock High by a margin of 203 points. The girls team also put out a great effort in placing 3rd overall out of 19 teams with 315 points.

Congrats to Laura O'Beirne, Claire O'Beirne, Vanessa Herrera and Mariana Mercado for placing either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their events.

The boys placed first in both the freestyle relays and the medley relay and placed either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in six other events. A special congratualtions to Joe Brown for breaking meet records in the 200 meter individual medley, and the 500 meter freestyle race.

The Eastwood swim team is coached by Steve Flato.

Eastwood and all YISD schools are now preparing for the District swim meets taking place this week at the Tigua pool. District 2-4A schools will be competing at 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 26.  District 1-5A schools will be competing at 3:00 p.m. on Jan. 27-28.
