Points of Pride
Welcome to Indian Ridge Middle School - Home of the Hawks
Dating back to its opening in 1989, Indian Ridge has a history of excellence in fine arts programs. In recent years, Indian Ridge has benefitted from Ysleta Independent School District's initiative to support fine arts education, in particular, jazz education.
For the past 3 years, the Indian Ridge Jazz Ensemble I has been awarded 1st place at the Hanks Jazz Festival in El Paso, Texas. Numerous members of the band have consistently been awarded "Best Section" and "Outstanding Soloist Awards." In December 2014, the Indian Ridge Jazz Ensemble performed at The Midwest Clinic - An International Band & Orchestra Conference in Chicago. The previous year in 2013, the Indian Ridge Jazz Ensemble performed at the Jazz Education Network 5th Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas. Many students have also been awarded with a jazz scholarship from the El Paso Friends of Jazz Society as well as earning a spot in their summer program, where the best young jazz musicians are showcased. Members of this band also participate in the El Paso Youth Jazz Ensemble and the Ysleta Independent School District Honor Jazz Band.
Each band meets during the school day. All year, in which students learn about jazz history, theory, and improvisation, in addition to ensemble rehearsal. Many students, involved are playing on a secondary instrument to participate in a jazz ensemble. Students work diligently to better themselves by participating in the TMEA Region 22 All-Region Jazz process.
The Indian Ridge Middle School Jazz program is a very active jazz ensemble in the El Paso area. The Jazz program has two performing ensembles with both groups participating in jazz festivals in the southwest area. We also have an annual "Music on the Ridge" concert for the public at the end of each school year showcasing all of our talented students including our Choir, Orchestra, and area feeder elementary school students.
