NY Times bestselling author visits Desert View MS
New York Times bestselling author April Henry visited Desert View Middle School students and staff on Nov. 3 to speak about her experiences as a writer. She is the author of 20 mystery books for teens and adults. Henry was witty and informative, explaining the process of writing, receiving rejection letters and not giving up. She also talked about how much she loved to research for her books in order to get all the details right.
Henry, who started her writing career as a child, spoke to the English classes during four periods and spent time with the students during their lunch time. She started her discussion with this line: “How I quit my day job and became a killer and a thief- and how you can too!” April Henry’s sense of humor was hilarious as she said she enjoyed killing off her former bosses and ex-boyfriends-in her books! This was her first time in El Paso and she really liked the people here. The students and teachers that met her could not stop talking about how wonderful and interesting she was.
