Desert View Middle School (DVMS) is a place where high expectations are the norm; a norm established from opening day in 1981. We provide an academically rich and emotionally nurturing environment for all students. Teaming provides an opportunity for the teachers to develop strong bonds with students and parents in order to work together for student success.
Desert View Middle School has been designated as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) National Demonstration School since March 2011. This distinction highlights our commitment to preparing all students for success in high school and college. Cornell Notetaking, binder structures, and organization, number of students taking Algebra and Pre-AP core classes. Our students work very hard to keep to the high standards that our faculty set. Desert View Middle School is only one of ten schools with this high award.
With Ysleta's Engage Me initiative, DVMS is very fortunate to be a 1:1 device campus where students have access to a Chromebook 24/7. Students are exposed to technology on a daily basis thru Google Classroom, Drive, Docs, among other applications and allows them to work collaboratively. Our goal: Prepare students for the 21st century.
Our Technology Lab has been reconfigured to meet STEAM requirement. The STEAM lab incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. A technology committee came up with ways to make the lab on a warm and inviting place to learn. Makerspaces, robotics and creative corners abound in this double room. DVMS former student, Ginger Kerrick, a NASA employee, visited our school and spoke to our students. Ms. Kerrick was presented with a plaque naming our STEAM lab in her honor.
