Points of Pride

  • Desert View Middle School is a place where high expectations are the norm; a norm established from opening day in 1981. We provide an academically rich and emotionally nurturing environment for all students. Teaming provides opportunity for the teachers to develop strong bonds with students and parents in order to work together for student success. Desert View Middle School has been designated as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) National Demonstration School since March 2011. This distinction highlights our commitment to preparing all students for success in high school and college. We have been featured on KVIA Estela’s Escuelas focusing on the impact of Chromebooks in the classroom, which students received as part of the Engage Me initiative.

Announcements

  • Parents and Guardians,

We are very excited to offer many fun, enticing, and free summer camps available to our students! Through a collaboration with UTEP we have set up six different summer camps that have both an academic and entertaining purpose. All camps will revolve around  the STEAM concept (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). The camps are designed around a concept that children will enjoy (zombies, superheroes, animals, etc), yet at the same time, gain useful knowledge to help them succeed in their educational career. Transportation will be provided for our students in both the morning and afternoon. Each camp is a week long, Monday-Thursday 7:30 am to 2:30 pm (dates available on the flyers below). Each camp will also have a field trip that will help students reinforce their knowledge gained in the camp. Field trips include (White Sands, Downtown El Paso, Dinosaur Tracks, Hueco Tanks, Utep Engineering and Physics Department, and El Paso Zoo). All field trips will be held on Thursdays and will be chaperoned by both college tutors and myself. We are truly looking forward to these summer camps as I know they will be of great benefit for our students. We look forward to seeing your children this summer and enjoy the fun!
