Campus History
Originally built in 1969, Tejas School of Choice opened its doors in 1993 as an alternative high school for students in the Ysleta Independent School District. It is located on the former site of Riverside Elementary School. Today, Tejas School of Choice serves primarily as a credit recovery campus for students who are eager to earn high school credits at an accelerated pace versus students who attend a traditional high school. Classes are scheduled for nine weeks (quarter) rather than eighteen weeks (semester). Online classes are also available so that students may learn at their own pace. In order to accelerate instruction, teachers hone in on the key instructional techniques and focus on TEKS to assist student learning. Tejas School of Choice students have an opportunity to return to their home campus as soon as they earn their mandatory high school credits. Many students choose to continue their education at Tejas School of Choice because they enjoy the small school environment and individualized instruction. Tejas School of Choice graduates students who have completed all of their graduation requirements every nine weeks and may attend their home campus school graduation if they choose. Tejas School of Choice is located at 7500 Alpha, in the Lower Valley.
