Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies are open-enrollment secondary schools focusing on improving instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects and increasing the number of students who study and enter STEM careers. T-STEM programs:

  • Enroll historically underserved students, targeting at-risk and economically disadvantaged
  • Provide dual credit at no cost to students
  • Improve STEM instruction and the academic performance of students
  • Engage students and expose them to innovation and problem-solving in real-world contexts
  • Offer rigorous instruction and accelerated courses
  • Provide academic and social support services to help students succeed
  • Increase college readiness
  • Align to regional workforce needs, guiding students into high-demand, high-wage careers
  • Partner with Texas institutions of higher education (IHEs) to reduce barriers to college access

T-STEM Initiative

The Ysleta Independent School District is working to support the T-STEM initiative is through integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics throughout all curriculum and by offering students the opportunity to take part in innovative coursework and creating highly engaging, hands-on classroom environment which empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive.

All students will register in a CTE STEM pathway upon entering high school which will help lead them to STEM post-secondary fields of study or STEM related employment opportunities. Whether it be using high tech automotive analysis computers in the automotive program, calculating and aggregating data in business administration or applying the tools of forensic investigation in law and public safety, CTE provides numerous opportunities to highlight STEM principles and apply them to real-life situations in a hands-on environment. Our students are empowered to make a difference in their classrooms, in their communities, and around the world.
