District Educational Improvement Council

  • In compliance with education code 11.251, the District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) shall advise the Board or its designee in establishing and reviewing the District's educational goals, objectives, and major District-wide classroom instructional programs identified by the Board or its designee. The council shall serve exclusively in an advisory role except that the council shall approve staff development of a District-wide nature.

    Belief Statement

    The purpose of the DEIC is to collaborate as an advisory committee to improve, clarify, develop,and communicate educational ideas and goals in order to enhance the learning environment for YISD.

    Purpose
    The District shall establish a district-level planning and decision-making process that will involve the parents, community members, and professional staff of the District. The District shall further establish a District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) to assist the Superintendent in establishing, reviewing, and updating the District Improvement Plan (DIP). The DIP must focus on increasing student performance in all student population groups served. It must reflect the District three-year educational plan, goals, and performance objectives as defined and annually updated by the Superintendent and Board of Trustees. 11.251(a)(b), 11.25(b).


    Composition

    The professional staff members of the DEIC will be selected through a district-wide election. Two-thirds of the elected members shall be classroom teachers. The remaining elected representatives shall be other campus- and district-level professional staff. Parents, community members, and business representatives shall be appointed with the approval of the Superintendent in a manner that provides for appropriate representation of the community's diversity.     The DEIC shall be composed of:
    4 Elementary school teachers
    2 Middle school teachers
    2 High school teachers
    4 Other campus-and district-level professionals
    7 Parents, community members or business representative
    Superintendent and/or designee
