Welcome to Mesa Vista Elementary School, Home of the Leopards!
Mesa Vista Elementary School is a small gem located in El Paso's lower valley that has been open for 50 years. Since excellence is our priority, our students are held to high standards. We are known for our consistency in following the 3 B's: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. We are proud to be in the Bel Air feeder pattern, as our students will continue to be future Warriors at the new Bel Air Middle School and Highlanders at Bel Air High School. We're #oneRED!
Principal’s Message
At Mesa Vista Elementary we are committed to doing all we can to make school a successful experience for every student. We firmly believe that a home/school partnership is necessary for the success of all of our students. Learning is not an easy process! It involves sharing ideas, making mistakes, and attempting new experiences. Learning involves hard work by everyone, the teacher, the parent, the principal, but most importantly the student.
At Mesa Vista Elementary, we value and challenge each student and provide opportunities for success.
Research and experience shows us that a parent’s/guardian’s involvement in a child’s education is directly related to his/her success in school. To maximize your child’s success, emphasize the importance of education through the following:
- Ensure that your child is at school on time each day.
- Attend parent/teacher conferences and school events.
- Monitor your child’s agenda and homework daily.
- Expect and support positive behavior at school.
- Read with your child or encourage your child to read daily.
I look forward to partnering with you to make this an exciting and successful year for our students. Thank you in advance for your support and commitment. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Norma L. Sierra, Principal
Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS)
We are the first school to have an annual PBIS Behavior Bowl (held in January) and PBIS March Madness (held in March) competitions. These competitions consist of students competing within their grade levels and the winning teams get a chance to represent their grade level in the final event, while the entire school cheers them on. All students who participate must show their consistency in following the three B's throughout the year. These special Mesa Vista traditions encourage our students to stay focused and allow them their time to shine throughout the year.
Campus Curriculum
As part of our Engage Me initiative, all of our students are issued a Chromebook to prepare them with essential 21st-century skills. Our teachers are using Interactive Display Boards and Google apps, like Google Classroom, to engage our learners, encourage collaboration, and enhance their critical thinking. In addition to these Google apps, our students have access to various personalized educational programs and applications focused on literacy, math, and science.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Our Leopards have the opportunity to continue learning after the school day. These clubs are meant to encourage our Leopards to be well-rounded students and spark their interest in different hobbies. Leopards 1.0, our VEX Robotics Club, builds and codes robots to compete in District competitions. The Student Council Club teaches our students about student government and civil service. The Mesa Vista Chess Club allows our students to develop critical thinking skills while learning to play Chess. In addition, our Leopards are encouraged to join UIL competitions. Such competitions include UIL Mathematics, UIL Spelling, and UIL Chess Puzzle.
