South Loop Elementary School is nestled in the historic land of the Ysleta Mission built in 1958. South Loop, home of the eagles, is a small, yet distinguished school originally started as kindergarten through 8th grade. It now serves a student population of approximately 300 in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. The school serves about 40 Native American students, with the Tigua Reservation sitting feet away from the school. Much of the Tigua culture is integrated in the curriculum and displayed at the school. South Loop's uniqueness creates a sense of closeness amongst faculty, staff, and students that allows for one on one attention in this learning environment.
This year the focus for our students has been "Random Acts of Kindness." The school cafeteria has been transformed into the "Friendship Cafe," where students are encouraged to have lunch with someone they don't know. The Friendship Cafe also features the "Kindness Tree," which was constructed and designed by Gifted and Talented students, that allows all students to add a leaf to the tree explaining how they showed kindness to someone. South Loop wants all students to feel safe, and that they belong to a school that has compassion for EVERYONE. At South Loop no one is left behind.
