Capistrano Elementary School

Achieving Excellence

Points of Pride

  • Our School
Capistrano Elementary School is a place where students thrive academically, grow as readers, and excel in extracurricular activities. Capistrano is very proud of receiving the STEAM Designation by the District. We are the first elementary school to receive this honor and we are extremely proud. S.T.E.A.M. stands for an integrated approach to learning and teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. We are a campus that offers a free meal in the afternoon to students through the non-profit school nutrition organization funded by the U.S. department of agriculture, Children's Kingdom Cafe.

    STEAM campus
Our steam initiative includes students participating in at least three modules developed around our STEAM initiative. During this part of the school day, students utilize the Engineering design process to create solutions to real world issues. Our focus on the arts (visual, social, language, physical) will be integrated into our daily instruction and specialized fine arts classes. Beginning with the year 2018-2019, Capistrano fourth graders will be participating in a dance pilot program. Dance Elite Kids will be integrating the arts with our Social Studies curriculum to create exciting performances which will culminate with two major plays throughout the year.

    Blended Learning Distinction
Capistrano Elementary School continues to implement Blended Learning and has now added a different grade level in its implementation. Our third and fourth grade classes are focused on the YISD blended learning design pillars. As we build this personalized learning approach, students are immersed in the environment where they take ownership for their learning based on their achievement data.
