Random Acts of Kindness
In 2010, Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) began building a school based curriculum, offered free of charge, to teach kindness and infuse social and emotional competence in children. By 2015, the comprehensive K-12 kindness curriculum was recognized as a top tier SEL instructional resource by teachers and education administrators.
At YISD, we believe that what kids learn in the classroom matters wherever they are, including at home. The RAK curriculum was inspired by the idea that we all have the capacity for kindness and all of us can inspire and empower each other to change the world through our actions.
To ensure students feel supported in and out of the classroom, RAK offers at least one “Home Extension Activity” within each unit. This encourages kids to bring home the important kindness concepts so everyone in the family can participate in building a better world.
We encourage parents to engage with their student, as well as teachers and counselors, on the RAK curriculum to share in the growth of kindness in our society.
