Welcome to Indian Ridge Middle School - The Hawk Nation
For over 25 years, Indian Ridge Middle School has a history of excellence in Fine Arts. Our campus offers programs such as Band, Jazz Band, Choir, Orchestra, Guitar, Visual Art, Dance and Ballet Folklorico.
For the past three years, the Indian Ridge Middle School Jazz Ensemble has received numerous distinctions, including 1st Place at the Hanks Jazz Festival in El Paso, Texas. In 2013, our Jazz Ensemble performed at the Jazz Education Network Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas. They were invited back and performed once again this year. Indian Ridge is the only middle school in the nation to be invited to this elite conference. The Indian Ridge Jazz Ensemble and Band are consistently awared top rating at All Region competitions. This year 18 members of the band were named to the Ysleta Independent School District Honor Band.
The Indian Ridge Ochestra and Guitar classes have been recognized in recent years for thier achievements, as well. Orchestra had six students selected for the YISD Honor Orchestra. The orchestra generally receives 1's in sight reading demonstrating their strength in music literacy. Every year the orchestra performs at the Superior Music Festical at Western Playland.
Choir and Piano celebrated 10 students who were selected for the YISD Honor Choir. The choir is regularly awarded outstanding and excellent ratings in both Pre-UIL and UIL events. These varsity choir students also perform at the Superior Music Festival at Western Playland. Indian Ridge piano students have been recognized as outstanding performers at UIL competitions for the past two years.
Music extends into dance classes at our campus. This year Ballet Folklorico classes continued at our campus. This class celebrates the diverse music and dance styles of the Mexican culture. Ballet Folklorico Los Halcones performed at this year's Dia de los Muertos celebration. The interest for dance at our campus demanded that a second dnace teacher join our faculty. Modern Dance is an elective choice for students in all grades. This school year we are thrilled to introduce our own dance team.
Visual Art is a class that allows students to explore drawing, painting, sculpting and photography. Art students have competed and excelled in competitions such as the El Paso Community College Citywide Art Competition, the Visual Arts Scholastic Event and the Ysleta Independent School District Annual Art Competition.
Our annual "Music on The Ridge" concert for the public at the end of each school year showcases all of our talented students from these programs, and area feeder elementary school students.
The Engage me inititiative is soaring at IRMS. Students are engaged with classroom activities using Google Classroom and other online learning resources. As part of the Engage Me, our library has become a true Common Learning Space. Technology is integrated in learning with tools such as LittleBits, Sphero, Bloxels, Coding, Mini Drones and Raspberry Pi. Our library has over 12,000 books ranging from trendy to classic. Our library is the heart of our school and a popular hangout for students.
Wellness is key in the Hawk Nation. The addition of a Weights and Conditioning class has encouraged students to take an interest in their physical well being. Motivated students develop strength and enhance sport performance with daily workouts in our weight rooms.
Indian Ridge Middle School is an academically rigorous campus. Our teachers are passionate and nurturing. There is a sense of home in our nest. We are the Hawk Nation!
