Congratulations to Gerardo (Gerry) Gutierrez, 2023 Riverside High School Honored Ex from the class of 1984!

Gerry Gutierrez was born and raised in the Thomas Manor community in the Lower Valley. With 30 years of experience as an architect, Gerry, along with his two partners were at one point just school kids growing up in the same neighborhood.

Today, they make up GA Architecture in El Paso providing services to public and private clients local and national. Together, they had the honor to design several elementary schools for Ysleta ISD which included the rebuild of Thomas Manor Elementary School.

“I've had some opportunities to do several projects with the school district, but really, I think Thomas Manor hit it in the spot because that's really home,” he said.

They used the school’s consolidation (with Cadwallader Elementary School) as inspiration for the design concept, which they labeled ‘Soul of The River.’

“You have students joining--two schools joining to become one. And eventually they go to Riverside Middle and Riverside High School. And at that point the sky's the limit,” Gutierrez said.

Other schools Gutierrez designed included Dolphin Terrace, Scotsdale, and Riverside elementary schools, as well as a new face lift to Riverside Middle School, Hanks High School, amongst others.

Gerry also gives back to the community by donating Thanksgiving dinners to the Reynolds Home (homeless shelter) on San Jose Rd and donated uniforms for the children of Thomas Manor and Riverside elementary schools.

In 2022, GA Architects was voted the "Best in El Paso." Finally, Gerry is also the contact and guest speaker for Texas Tech and EPCC architecture programs.

Thursday, Sept. 14  
6 p.m. – “Rangerella” parade begins at Riverside HS main parking lot proceeding down Knights to Thomas Manor ES, u-turn back down Knights ending at Riverside HS main parking lot.

7 p.m. - Honored Ex assembly will be held immediately following the parade at Tom Work Riverfront Stadium. Performances and fireworks to follow. Open to the community.
