Kira Smith, a sophomore at Young Women’s Leadership Academy, was the only string musician from the entire El Paso region to be selected into the prestigious 2024 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All State, the highest honor a Texas music student can receive.

Over 70,000 students initially enter the TMEA All-State competitive process and 1,875 students are selected to perform in 18 All-State ensembles. All-State performances are held as part of the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention, February 7–10, 2024.

Kira was one of only 40 string bass players from across the state of Texas selected for this high honor. She performs in both school and community groups. This year Kira performed with the inaugural UTEP Honor Band and is a continuing member of the El Paso Youth Jazz Ensemble. She is interested in studying music performance in college.
