Bel Air girls wrestler brings home gold from state tournament

Bel Air HS sophomore Cydney Davis brought home a gold medal in the 5A 152-pound weight class at the UIL State Wrestling Championships which was held at the Berry Center in Cypress, TX in February.

Cydney is a national caliber track athlete in the heptathlon. She finished the wrestling season undefeated with a perfect 48-0, beating Amarillo High's Arayla Archie on a fall at the 5:38 mark at the state tournament. According to the UIL, 48 wins is the Class 5A state record for wins in a season.

Her first taste of wrestling came as an 8th grader. As a freshman, Cydney won a bronze medal in the 5A 152-pound weight class at the 2023 state tournament. She is Bel Air High School’s first two-time Region 1 champion and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in UIL Region I.

Cydney has participated in gymnastics for 10 years and is a three-time All American in track. She also holds the district championship in long jump, triple jump and 100 hurdles. In order to further her athletic career in wrestling and track, Cydney wants to earn a PhD in Sports Psychology.
