Riverside High School seniors shine at International Career Development Conference

For the first time in more than a decade, Riverside High School seniors Haylee Esparza and Hailey Muro proudly represented Ysleta ISD at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, which took place from April 27-May 1.

The pair qualified to compete at internationals after their strong showing at DECA State Conference in Houston last month, where they went up against more than 100 students from across the state to secure their spots at the contest in Anaheim.

The girls competed in the Innovation Plan written event, which involves brainstorming an idea for a new business, product, or service and identifying the marketing opportunities involved. As part of the competition, students must prepare a brief concept paper, then present the opportunity that exists in the marketplace, and explain how their innovation will meet the needs of consumers.

This is the first year Riverside High School sent students to internationals since 2010, when the program was reinstated at the campus. Both Hailey and Haylee successfully qualified for the state DECA competition in both their sophomore and junior years.
