Troopers wrap up graduation season
Graduates across Ysleta ISD are taking the stage to commemorate their achievements this month. Eastwood High School seniors will graduate 530 seniors on Tuesday, June 13 at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center. Principal Armenia Smith will welcome the graduates while YISD Superintendent Dr. Xavier De La Torre will offer words of inspiration and student accolades.
Congratulations to Eastwood’s Valedictorian Michael Perez and Salutatorian Nathaniel Hibbert!
Eastwood Valedictorian Michael Perez intends to enroll at the University of Notre Dame where he will study mechanical engineering with a focus on bioengineering. He received scholarships totaling over $1 million from various schools including Harvard, Fordham, Duke, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Baylor University, and the University of Texas at El Paso. He was president of the Robotics Team for three years where he led the team to three consecutive VEX World Championships. He was class president for two years, a member of National Honor Society, vice president of the STEM Club and a member of High Q. He was a National Hispanic Merit Scholar and an AP College Board Scholar with distinction.
Salutatorian Nathaniel Hibbert will attend Harvard University in the fall where he will major in chemistry and minoring in biomedical engineering. He has been offered up to $600,000 in financial aid from Harvard, Rice, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Texas at El Paso. Nathaniel is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National Hispanic Scholar, an NMSQT Commended Scholar, and a member of the National Honor Society.
YISD is offering live web streaming over the internet of all graduations. This service will enable family and friends of graduating students to watch and listen to the ceremony live using their computer and an internet connection from anywhere in the world. After graduation, videos of all ceremonies are archived on the Ysleta ISD YouTube Channel.
