YHS Indians celebrate Homecoming on the Reservation
Congratulations to 2019 Honored Ex Norma Favela Barceleau, form the Tribe of 1979.
Norma graduated from Ysleta High School in the top 5% of her graduating class. During her time on the Reservation, Norma was a member of the Ysleta Drum Corps. She was a lead tenor who helped bring 1st place designations in local and state band competition and traveled with the Drum Corps to Washington D.C. where they marched in the Cherry Blossom Parade.
After graduating from Ysleta, she continued her education at the University of Texas at El Paso where she pursued a degree in Criminal Justice. She has been a dedicated public servant for over 34 years in El Paso County and has been our County District Clerk since 2010.
Norma is a member of the County and District Clerk Associations of Texas; the Westside; Northeast and Tejano Democratic organizations. She has also been a volunteer and speaker with Community en Acción for the past 9 years helping with their annual Young Achievers Forum which brings 6th grade students from the El Paso area to UTEP for a day of learning and exposure to the areas of STEM, Liberal Arts, Nursing, Education and Health. She also volunteers with the Paso Del Norte Children’s Development Center which helps children with special needs and their families.
Her family members include her late father, Samuel Favela and mother Graciela Favela; brother, Dr. Samuel Favela – Jr. Doctor of Optometry (YHS Class of 1981); sister, Vivian Favela Gomez – Class of 1989 Riverside High School; husband, Jaime Barceleau and her children Robert Phoenix, Clarissa and Ashley.
