Working to make a difference: Thank you District 5 Trustee Mr. Cruz Ochoa
January is school Board Recognition Month in Texas. We join the districts across the state in recognizing our dedicated school board members. These public servants sit through meetings, read detailed reports, listen to parents’ concerns, and do the hard work to benefit the students and the community at large. They bring a variety of skills and backgrounds to their task, and they take their responsibilities seriously. And the whole community benefits from their vigilance in providing good schools.
Hanks area trustee and Board President Cruz A. Ochoa Jr. served as an electronics engineer at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory at White Sands Missile Range for 23 years. A lifelong El Pasoan, Mr. Ochoa graduated from Jefferson High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from New Mexico State University. His wife of 47 years is a retired YISD teacher, and their five children all attended schools in the Hanks area. Now retired, Mr. Ochoa volunteers as a math tutor for the Region 19 Homeless Education Program, serves as a mentor in the Jefferson High School Mentorship Program, and is a member of the Jefferson High School Alumni Committee.
District 5 includes Hanks HS, Desert View MS, Indian Ridge MS, Pebble Hills ES, Tierra Del Sol ES, Glen Cove ES, REL Washington ES, Vista Hills ES.
Please take a moment to say thank you to your fellow citizens who have stepped up to serve as trustees for our public schools.
