Pandemic Electronic Transfer

Eligible Ysleta ISD families will be able to apply in early June for a one-time benefit of up to $285 per qualifying child to purchase food items, thanks to a new state program designed to help families who are struggling financially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This new program, called the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT), is being administered through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to assist families during the unanticipated school closures. If approved, families would receive up to $285 per qualifying child on an EBT card to purchase food from any retailer that accepts the Texas Lone Star Card.

Families who received SNAP benefits for March 2020 and include children 5-18 years old as of May 17 do NOT need to apply for the P-EBT program.  P-EBT benefits will automatically be issued to these families on their current Lone Star Card by May 22. No further action is required.

However, all other eligible families must apply to be considered for P-EBT benefits. You are eligible to apply for P-EBT if your family meets one of the following three criteria:

  • Includes a student 21 years or younger who qualified for free or reduced-price meals at Texas schools in the 2019-2020 school year;
  • Includes a student who attends one of 49 Ysleta ISD schools that offer free meals to all students under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program; or
  • Received SNAP benefits for March 2020, and includes children who are under 5 years and/or between 19 and 21 years.

In early June, the state will provide Ysleta ISD with a link where eligible families can apply for P-EBT. This application link will be posted on Ysleta ISD’s new P-EBT webpage at http://pebt.yisd.net.

Families have until Saturday, June 30, to complete and submit the P-EBT application. Families that are approved will receive a P-EBT card in the mail, and have one year from the date the benefits are issued to use the P-EBT food benefits, which are non-transferable.
