Excellence abounds for the Parkland High School Matador class of 2020
Graduates across the country are commemorating their achievements in a different way this year and Ysleta ISD is no exception. Parkland High School Principal Penelope Bankston has announced the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the class of 2020.
Congratulations to Parkland High School Valedictorian Katherine Engle and Salutatorian Alianny Alcala!
Valedictorian Katherine Engle has made Parkland history as both a gifted scholar, musician, and student leader. She has led the Matador Band as Drum Major for the last three years where she earned many distinctions and awards. She was also recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar by the College Board for her outstanding performance. This fall, she will study music at the University of Texas at El Paso after being awarded the Presidential Excellence Scholarship.
Salutatorian Alianny Alcala has excelled both in and out of the classroom. She was a four-year starter on the varsity softball team where she earned 1st Team All District. She was a member of the National Honor Society and of the Parkland Early College High School Pilot Program where she completed her Associate’s Degree at El Paso Community College. She will enroll at Texas State University this fall to pursue her dream of becoming an oncologist.
In keeping with restrictions issued by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Ysleta ISD has announced it will celebrate its Class of 2020 graduates during our hybrid ceremonies which will air on June 13 and 14 on KTSM Channel 9, and also online on KTSM.com, KTSM Facebook Live, and the district’s YouTube channel. Times for each ceremony have yet to be determined, but will be announced in the coming week and posted at www.yisd.net and YISD media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
