Eastwood High School 2022 Homecoming Celebration

Eastwood High School is proud to honor 2022 Honored Ex Dr. Richard Piñeda (Class of 1992) Honored Ex, Dr. Richard Pineda

Dr. Richard D. Pineda is the chair of the Department of Communication at The University of Texas at El Paso, where he has been on the faculty for 19 years and serves as the Director of the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies. Through that role, he is sought out for media commentary and has been featured on the BBC, Al Jazeera, Texas Public Radio, and has been interviewed across dozens of media platforms.

Dr. Pineda attended Baylor University for his undergraduate degree in Political Science, received his Master’s in Communication from UTEP, and his PhD from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Pineda is a proud Trooper and is celebrating his 30th reunion with the class of 1992. He attributes much of his success in life to the speech and debate program at Eastwood, coached by Shawn Mena the four years Pineda was on the team. "Shawn Mena changed my life by welcoming me to the Eastwood Speech and Debate Team my freshman year. Her influence is impossible to quantify. She gave me a place to be my best self during the years of life when it is hard to figure out who and what you are and she taught me how to be a fierce competitor." Pineda added, "I love teaching because of Mena and the impact I try and have on students is a direct influence of what she did for me at Eastwood."
