ARC is an ERP Honor ROLL School

Honor ROLL School

Alicia R. Chacon was named an Honor ROLL School for the 5th straight year in a row for its high levels of student achievement, academic progress over time, college readiness, or reductions in achievement gaps among student populations.

The Texas Honor ROLL, presented by Educational Results Partnership (ERP), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes.

The Honor Roll is the only school recognition program in the state that exclusively uses student achievement outcomes as the criteria. It is a growing resource for all schools to learn about best practices that increase student achievement.

Alicia Chacon Int’l ranked best middle schools in EP by U.S. News & World Report

Seven schools in the Ysleta Independent School District are among the El Paso area’s top 10-ranked public elementary schools and middle schools, according to the 2022 Best K-8 Schools Rankings released for the first time ever this month by U.S. News & World Report.

YWLA was followed by the K-8 Alicia R. Chacon International School in the No. 2 spot, with Eastwood Middle School (No. 6) and the K-8 Eastwood Knolls International School (No. 8) rounding out El Paso’s top 10 list.

These new rankings come just a few weeks after Ysleta ISD was named the No. 1 school district in the El Paso area on the 2022 Best School Districts by Niche, a leading platform connecting students and families with colleges and schools.

This is the first year for U.S. News & World Report’s new elementary/middle school rankings, which are similar in nature to its annual Best High Schools rankings.

According to the publication, these new rankings assess student performance in the context of their states and demographics – and because they focus on academics, the rankings can provide insight into a key element of school quality to help parents determine the best school for their children.

Scoring was almost entirely rooted in students’ performance on state tests in math and reading/language arts, the publication said.

More than 79,000 unique public grade schools were ranked in 2021, including 47,325 schools newly ranked as elementary schools and 23,255 as middle schools – some of which are in both rankings.

The Pandemic Edition of the school rankings aims to determine the consistency and resiliency of schools and districts before COVID-19. By examining past performance, we hope to understand better which schools and students entered the 2020-2021 school year more prepared and likely need more generous support.

“We are exceptionally proud of the accomplishments of these schools, as well as the tireless work of our dedicated administrators, teachers, and staff,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Xavier De La Torre. “Despite the unusual challenges facing public education in 2020, Ysleta ISD schools continue to demonstrate the kind of consistent, time-tested success that parents can rely upon when choosing the best campus for their children.” rankings are calculated using the following measures:

• Student Achievement Index – Student performance on STAAR reading and math tests

• Campus Performance Index – A school’s overall campus performance is compared to other campuses statewide with similar levels of poverty. This adjustment is made to eliminate bias toward campuses with low percentages of economically disadvantaged students.

• Growth Index – Student-level improvement over time on standardized test scores in reading, English, and math.

• College Readiness Index – High school graduation rates, SAT/ACT participation rate and scores, and AP/IB participation rate and scores (high schools only)., produced by the nonprofit group Children At Risk in partnership with the Rainwater Charitable Foundation, helps parents across the state understand how local schools are performing, what their school choice options are, and how to support their child’s education from cradle to career. It also aims to spark dialogue on the quality of public education in Texas. For a complete list of the top West Texas schools, visit
