March 20 Superintendent's Message

A Special Message from Superintendent Dr. Xavier De La Torre

Update: 11:50 a.m. March 20, 2020

Ysleta ISD Community,

Once again, I’d like to thank the Ysleta ISD community for its patience and support as we monitor our situation regarding the spread of COVID-19.

Due to heightened concerns regarding the spread of the Coronavirus, the Ysleta Independent School District has made the decision to close the school district for two weeks following Spring Break (March 23 - April 3). This adheres to the directive received from the City of El Paso Department of Public Health. I will continue to closely monitor the situation and will reevaluate the decision to extend the closure prior to April 3, 2020.

Ysleta ISD will continue to offer meals to our community. However, we have modified the drive-through schedule to a single pick-up period. Both breakfast and lunch will be combined in one package and available to every eligible child under the age of 18 for a single pick-up during the hours from 7:30 am-11:00 am.

We encourage students to engage in online learning opportunities during the school closure. School electronic devices have been sent home for students in grades 3-10. All parents of a PREK-2nd grade student will receive a workbook in the mail for your child to work on at home. We will send out additional parent information with online learning opportunities that have been utilized throughout the school year. During this time off, the district will be thoroughly sanitizing our campuses and district offices.

As a precautionary step given the global spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we are asking everyone in the Ysleta ISD community who traveled outside of the El Paso region after March 13, 2020 to register their travel here: YISD Travel Registry

As always, we will also continue to work closely with our city and county health officials, and monitor any developments regarding COVID-19 as it relates to the Ysleta ISD community. Please continue to check this page for any updates throughout the closure, and we strongly encourage you to continue to practice good hand hygiene, and remain committed in your efforts to keep your family in good health.

Also, please continue to review updates provided by the CDC at CDC Coronavirus (COVID-19) Web Page. The CDC web page is the best resource for up-to-date information on the virus and steps that need to be taken to contain it.
