Parental Rights and Options Information
As a parent, you are the most important voice in your child’s education. Texas law recognizes that students do best when families are informed, involved, and respected.
Parents are partners with educators, administrators, and school boards of trustees in their children’s education. Parents have specific rights outlined in the Texas Education Code, including Chapter 26: Parental Rights and Responsibilities.

Parental consent is now required for students to receive school-based health or emotional wellness services provided by qualified Ysleta ISD staff. For more information, click here.
Parents have the right to review library and instructional materials, restrict their child's access to specific titles through school enforcement, and monitor their child's individual library records and requests. For more information, click here.
Parents have the ability to access the district's approach to instruction, by semester, via instructional plans. These plans contain the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKs) covered by Subject, Semester, and Unit. Parents are also entitled to preview the school guidance and SEL curriculum which follows student support standards. For more information, click here.
Public schools are required to follow the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) when adopting their curriculum. Parents have certain rights to participate in the development and updating of the standards. For more information, click here.
