Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA)

What is TIA?

The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), created by the Texas Legislature as part of House Bill 3, recognizes and rewards educators for the meaningful difference they make in their classrooms every day. By demonstrating strong instructional practices and student growth, teachers can earn designations that open the door to increased compensation and long-term career growth.

How TIA Works

  • Districts submit a plan to TEA that explains who will participate, how teachers will be designated, and how teachers will be compensated.

  • TEA reviews the plan and either approves it or makes improvement suggestions.

  • Once approved, the district uses the data specified in the plan to identify teachers to be nominated for designations.

  • The district submits nominations to TEA.

  • TEA reviews the data used for nominations and either approves them or makes improvement suggestions.

  • TEA awards designations to teachers based on the district nominations and defines the level of compensation for each teacher based on their designation and campus.

  • The district uses the data specified in the plan to identify teachers who have earned compensation.

  • Teachers who qualify receive their compensation.

TIA in The District

  • The district’s plan has been approved by TEA.

  • The first cohort of participating teachers are the teachers of record for math and resource math in grades four through eight and Algebra I.

  • Teacher designations are based on teacher attendance, T-TESS summative ratings for Domains II and III, and student growth in STAAR.

  • Teacher compensation is based on the same measures as designations, which must be met every year to qualify for compensation.

  • Data from the 2026-27 school year will be used to nominate teachers for designations.

  • Data from the 2027-28 school year will be used to identify designated teachers who qualify for compensation.
