Among more than 1,200 member schools statewide, the Hanks High School Student Council (StuCo) was recently recognized with a Top Project award from the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) for its spirited family Halloween event, Trick-or-Treat Knight!
Only 10 student councils in Texas won TASC’s Top Project award this year, placing Hanks High School’s StuCo among the best of the best in the state!
“Our Student Council hosts Trick-or-Treat Knight every year in hopes of creating a safe Halloween environment for the families at The Kingdom,” said Student Activities Director and StuCo advisor Emma Aveytia. “It’s also a great way for the members of clubs, sports, and other organizations on our campus to get service hours and give back to our community.”
This year’s TASC Top Projects were evaluated based on their objectives, originality, student and staff involvement, community engagement, and overall success.
By participating in StuCo, students are able to develop real-world leadership skills like team building, problem-solving, project planning, and decision-making – and through co-curricular activities like Trick-or-Treat Knight, Hanks High School students build both academic and personal growth while making a positive difference on campus and beyond.
TASC is a nonprofit organization supporting student councils at the middle and high school levels across Texas. Sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, TASC promotes leadership, democratic values, and high standards for student-led initiatives. It is the largest state student council organization in the U.S.
