6 Purple Star Campuses

Ysleta ISD’s Eastwood Heights Elementary School has earned the Texas Education Agency’s Purple Star Campus designation, placing it among only 98 schools statewide and honoring its exceptional support for military connected students and their families. With this designation, Ysleta ISD now has a total of 6 Purple Star schools.

  • Alicia Chacon International School

  • Eastwood Knolls International School

  • Edgemere International School

  • R.E.L. Washington International School

  • Young Women’s Leadership Academy

Military life brings frequent moves, new schools, and deployments—changes that can disrupt a child’s routine. To ease those transitions, Ysleta ISD created the HERO Military Program, a one-stop support system that streamlines enrollment and helps families quickly plug into their new school and community.

Through HERO, each campus has a dedicated liaison who greets military-connected families, guides them through enrollment, and connects them with resources. Purple Star schools also host welcome tours, student buddy programs, and year-round events—such as Month of the Military Child activities—to celebrate and support military families.

Any Texas public school or open-enrollment charter school can earn the Purple Star Campus Designation, no matter how many military-connected students they serve. Applications are accepted annually, and the designation is valid for two years.

To receive the Purple Star designation, campuses must meet TEA’s criteria: name a trained military liaison and provide staff professional development; maintain an easily accessible military[1]focused webpage; implement a strong student transition program; and offer at least one additional military-connected initiative.
