Bel Air High School senior and girls wrestling phenom Cydney Davis is keeping the big wins coming!
Fresh off her third-straight gold medal win at the UIL 5A girls wrestling state championship, the Highlander standout has now been crowned the Texas winner of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's prestigious Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award, cementing her status as one of the best in the nation.
The award is named after Tricia Saunders, a four-time World Champion and pioneer in women’s wrestling. Saunders was the first woman to be inducted as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006 and was inducted into the United World Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2011. This award is presented annually to a female high school senior who demonstrates excellence in wrestling, academics, and citizenship or community service.
In addition, the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) named Cydney the 2026 Class 5A Girls Wrestler of the Year! With a record of 57-0 in 2026, Cydney helped lead the Lady Highlanders to a bronze medal finish – the school’s first podium appearance in recent years. Competing in the 155-pound weight class, Cydney capped off her high school career with an impressive 193-3 record. She gave a flawless performance at the state championship meet, pinning every opponent she faced, with every match of the tournament clocking in at under two minutes.
Congratulations, Cydney! You’ve represented Ysleta ISD and the El Paso community with pride – we can’t wait to keep cheering you on!
