Jin Song, a senior at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA), has been selected as the inaugural recipient of a special $1,000 Ana Maria Paniagua Angel of Service Award in honor of the late Ana Maria Paniagua, who passed away earlier this year in a tragic accident that occurred while she was attempting to render aid to another person.
Mrs. Paniagua, a former Jefferson High School teacher, was a YWLA parent and dedicated volunteer in the El Paso community who was known for her service to others. The $1,000 Angel of Service scholarship was established by the YWLA PTSO and the Paniagua family to support students who give back to their community.
Jin, who has performed 1,000 hours of community service and worked closely with Mrs. Paniagua on several campus projects, was selected for the award as a student who exemplifies the spirit of selflessness, kindness, and commitment to community service demonstrated by Mrs. Paniagua.
