The El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame will honor 15 Ysleta ISD students with the 2026 Ray Sanchez High School Student-Athlete of the Year award at its June 24 awards dinner.
One male and one female student from each high school are selected based on rigorous criteria, recognizing not only athletic achievement but also academic excellence and commitment to community service.
The award is named in honor of Ray Sanchez, a decorated sportswriter, accomplished author, and respected sports historian who passed away in 2022. A 1978 Hall of Fame inductee, Sanchez also played a key role in the organization’s founding in 1955.
