Riverside High School graduate Jaylin Esparza was among only 15 in the state to be honored by the State Board of Education (SBOE) as 2026 Student Heroes, an inspiring group of Texas public school students who demonstrate exceptional character, kindness, and service to others.
SBOE Student Heroes embody compassion and leadership in action through meaningful community service, whether that’s supporting students with disabilities, mentoring younger students, or launching nonprofits that champion mental health and wellness. They make a lasting difference in the lives of others and inspire stronger, more caring communities.
Jaylin, who was selected to represent SBOE District 1, served the Riverside High School community as a Student Council officer, cheerleader, and wrestling team manager for three years while also volunteering with her church’s “Kiddos” program to support students with special needs. Her commitment to service excellence, school pride, and helping others in need reflects her strong character and values.
“The 2026 Student Heroes remind us that leadership begins with a willingness to serve others,” said SBOE Chairman Aaron Kinsey. “These outstanding students are making a lasting difference in their schools and communities through selfless service, and the State Board of Education is proud to recognize their extraordinary example for all Texans.”
The SBOE adopted a resolution in honor of Jaylin and her fellow Student Heroes during the June general meeting.
Jaylin will continue her education at El Paso Community College this fall. Ysleta ISD offers its heartfelt congratulations to Jaylin on this well-deserved honor, and for making a positive difference in the Ysleta ISD community!
