In preparation for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year, the Ysleta Independent School District is pleased to announce the new appointment of principals at Capistrano, Riverside, and Presa elementary schools, effective immediately.
Taking the lead at Capistrano ES
Barbara Flores, a former principal at Clint ISD, is the new principal at Capistrano Elementary School. She began her career in education in 1992 as a teacher at Fabens ISD, and went on to serve as an instructional coach, elementary and middle school assistant principal, ELAR professional development consultant, and principal.
Flores holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from San Angelo University and a master’s degree in School Administration from Sul Ross State University.
Guiding Riverside ES forward
Yvonne Castillo, former assistant principal at Ramona STEM Academy, has been selected to serve as principal of Riverside Elementary School. She began her career in education in 2004 as a teacher at Ascarate Elementary School, and went on to serve as an instructional coach and assistant principal.
Castillo holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), and is certified in Educational Leadership from Region 19.
Continuing Excellence at Presa ES
Marisa Holguin, former principal at Capistrano Elementary School, is now serving as principal of Presa Elementary School. She began her career in education in 2006 as an early childhood bilingual teacher, worked in Fort Worth, then returned to El Paso to serve as a schoolwide campus coordinator, instructional specialist, assistant principal, and principal.
Holguin holds a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies Bilingual Education from UTEP and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.
