19 Ysleta ISD Schools Win Designation for Military Family Support

Nineteen Ysleta ISD schools have earned Texas’ distinguished Purple Star designation, joining 329 campuses across the state that won the recognition for going above and beyond in their support for military-connected students and their families.   

The newest Purple Star campuses at Ysleta ISD are:

·     Parkland Pre-K Center

·     Parkland Pre-Engineering Middle

·     Pebble Hills Elementary

·     REL Washington International

Serving Those Who Serve

Military life brings unique challenges and opportunities for families, from frequent relocations to the transition into new cities, neighborhoods, and schools. To help make that process easier, Ysleta ISD created its HERO Military Program, designed to provide military-connected families with a welcoming, supportive path into the district and the El Paso community.

Through the HERO program, a dedicated school liaison greets military-connected families, assists them through the enrollment process, and helps connect them with campus and community resources. Purple Star campuses also host special programs and events throughout the school year to honor, celebrate, and support military students and their families.

Commitment Beyond the Classroom

All Texas public schools may apply annually for the Purple Star Campus Designation. To earn the honor, campuses must demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and families by maintaining an accessible webpage with helpful resources, establishing a campus transition program, and offering a military family assistance initiative.

“Military-connected students and their families make significant contributions to communities across our state,” said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath. “Purple Star campuses are leading the way in making sure these students feel welcomed, supported and connected to their communities.”
