Since his days at Bel Air High, this year’s honored ex has been a successful leader in both media and community relations and has worked hard throughout his career to promote his community. While at BAHS he was co-editor of the yearbook, sports editor of the newspaper, a member of the Pipe Band and a senior class officer. After high school and college, worked at KVIA ABC 7, San Elizario Independent School District, Destination El Paso, El Paso Catholic Schools and for the U.S. House of Representatives in Congresswoman Escobar’s El Paso District Office. His professional career spanned 30 years before retiring in 2022. During his three decades long professional career he won state and national awards for his public relations efforts and he has earned local recognitions such as: Borderland Rainbow Center LGBTQ+ Border Hero, El Paso Catholic Schools SEED Award, El Paso Times 52 Under 40 El Pasoans, and has been named to the Texas Association of School Boards Media Honor Roll. His community involvement has also included serving on the St. Patrick Cathedral School‘s Board of Trustees, the International AIDS Empowerment El Paso Board of Directors, and the El Paso FBI’s Citizen Academy. Currently he serves on the city’s Greater El Paso Civic Convention & Tourism Advisory Board and is the Social Media Officer for our 915 Lobos-El Paso Chapter which is Sul Ross State University’s local alumni group which raises funds for scholarships.
